Three Jobs in Detail
The Challenge
A mid-century Swiss manual-wind, unserviced for an estimated 25 years. Running erratically, crown thread partially stripped, and case showing heavy oxidisation.
The Approach
Full movement disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, replacement of worn pivot jewels, and sourcing of an original crown from a parts dealer in Switzerland. Case polished and brushed to specification. Owner confirmed approach at each stage.
The Outcome
Movement running within +8 seconds per day on the timing machine. Case restored to a wearable condition. Job duration: eleven weeks, primarily due to parts sourcing. Client's words: "it runs better than it ever did when I inherited it."
The Challenge
A 1980s Japanese automatic with a dial that had developed significant moisture staining and hands that had lost most of their lacquer finish. The movement itself was functioning within acceptable range.
The Approach
Dial and hands removed and cleaned. Dial surface treated conservatively — heavy cleaning only, no re-lacquer, as the owner wanted to keep the aged look. Hands refinished to a satin finish to match the original specification.
The Outcome
Dial considerably cleaner with the staining reduced to an acceptable level. Hands back to a uniform finish. Completed in nine days. The owner noted the watch looked "the same but better," which was precisely the goal discussed at intake.
The Challenge
A sport watch worn daily for fifteen years. Crown had become impossible to pull, and the owner suspected a broken stem. The gaskets had not been changed in the watch's lifetime.
The Approach
Stem confirmed broken at assessment. New crown and stem sourced from the manufacturer's service network. Full gasket set replaced. Function tested across all positions with the new crown fitted.
